On Saturday, The Public Lands VolunTour stopped in Jupiter, Florida for one of the longest running National Public Lands Day sites; Jupiter Island Inlet Natural Area. This will mark the 12th year of participation for the BLM managed Jupiter Inlet Natural Area. Also partnering in this project is Palm Beach County and a top notch program from Jupiter High School known as the Jupiter Environmental Field Sciences Academy who accepted a $1,000 grant on behalf of the worksite.I had an amazing day discovering the diverse flora and fauna on the inlet. I got to witness, first hand, some of the work that had been done in this area on previous NPLD's. For instance, we saw photos of 8 inch mangroves being planted only 5 years ago on NPLD grow to well over 6 feet and some in the 8 to 9 foot range! Much thanks goes to Faye Winters and her BLM crew for taking me on a wonderful tour of the area and explaining the rich bilogical history Jupiter Inlet has. Also, Neil White of Jupter High School and leader of the Jupter Enviromental Field Sciences Academy is an environmental and community leader for all the work that he and his organization has done, specifcally at Jupiter Inlet.
