Visit to Valley Forge and Another $1,000

On Friday, September 1st, I had the opportunity to visit Valley Forge National Historic Site and deliver yet another $1,000 grant to Friends of Valley Forge. We set up in front of an encampment house, one of several structures located within the park that resemble the houses that Revoluntionary War soldiers used during the winter while holding camp outside Philadelphia. The Valley Forge National Historic Site has been pariticpating in National Public Lands Day for several years. In fact, we have photographic evidence that a team of volunteers kept at in during Huricane Isabel in 2004! I'll have to dig those up and post them soon!

I toured the park in my Lexus RX400 that Toyota lent me for this leg of the trip and I checked out all the monuments to our forefathers. I saw several series of encampment houses, Washington's Headquarters, Washington Cathedrel, and several other historical items around the park. While I was expecting to be wowed by the historical aspect of this park, I was so impressed with were the natural and recreational opportunities located throughout the park. I had no idea that this area held excellent hiking and cycling trails or boasted the natural habitat areas throughout the park. Deer were abundent and posed for photographs while I was touring the area.

If you are ever in the Philadelphia area and have a moment to spare, make sure you take the opportunity to visit Valley Forge National Historic Site. It is a true gem.
