September 11th-I have arrived

I arrived in southern California last night and met up with my college roommate from Arizona State University. We headed to a sports bar to watch the second half of the ASU/Louisiana State football game on television. It was a blow to see 'my team' lose to LSU but if they had to lose to anybody, I'm glad it was LSU.

Today I basically used to decompress a bit before heading out on the road for 2 weeks although I did have a few loose ends to take care off. I got a shipment from RUHooked magazine and Oberto for items to pass out to volunteers at our events. Thanks to RUHooked and Oberto for that. The volunteers will appreciate the free magazines and beef jerky.

I spent much of the day at Bolsa Chica State Beach, an area where there will be a National Public Lands Day event led by the Earth Resource Foundation. The water was a bit too cold for me without a wetsuit so I relaxed on the beach and enjoyed the sights and sounds of the beach.

I will head up to Redding tomorrow which is, from what I hear, an eight hour drive. I'll be styling, though, in a 2005 Toyota hybrid Prius and I'm sure that between the scenery on Route 5 and the excitement of driving this cool car, time will fly and I’ll wish the trip was longer.

I’m heading to Redding which is the closest town to Whiskeytown National Recreation Area. A ranger has just recently discovered a waterfall and it has attracted a great deal of publicity. I will be presenting the superintendent of the park and the Friends of Whiskeytown group a $1,000 check on behalf of Toyota to assist them to create a trail to the falls. Afterward, we will go on a group hike to the falls. Very exciting, indeed!

That’s it for my first entry of this blog! Please check this out as I’ll try to update daily with new entries and photos as my trip progresses. Until next time!
