This weekend the Toyota Prius visited two wonderful volunteer spots. On Saturday, The Public Lands Tour visited Bay Model Visitor Center to celebrate National Public Lands Day in conjunction with California Coastal Cleanup Day. Over 2000 volunteers throughout Marin County near San Francisco volunteered their mornings to cleanup the coastlines of the bays, coves, and coastlines throughout the county. In addition, The Bay Model Visitor Center located in Sausalito celebrated National Public Lands Day.
Bay Model is an Army Corps of Engineers managed facility which is a large scale model of how the water system in the Bay Area works, basically. I learned a great deal from walking through the museum like area and taking part in its exibits. This is a wonderful resource for the community.
The Sausalito Lions Club was on hand to accept the $1000 check this time. Every year, the folks at this Lions Club feed the 200 or so volunteers that come back to Bay Model with a wonderful BBQ style lunch to reward the folks for their time. It was a wonderful event with children and adults participating.
One highlight was the art that was displayed by a local artist from garbage collected from public lands. What a creative way to recycle!! In addition, the raffle contest at the end of the day was an excellent touch to cap an already fun filled day! I'll have pictures posted soon.
